SPECPOL

Our 4th committee is SPECPOL, which is a beginner level committee!

The Special Political and Decolonization Committee (SPECPOL) is the Fourth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly. Originally two separate committees, addressing a comprehensive range of subjects, including five agenda items on decolonization, the effects of atomic radiation, information-related questions, a review of the issue of peacekeeping operations, and a review of special political missions. The agenda item focuses on, assessing the function of UN peacekeeping operations in conflict situations focuses on assessing the effectiveness of UN peacekeeping forces in managing and resolving conflicts in countries around the world. The assessment discusses how effective peacekeeping forces have been in helping countries protect civilians, honour ceasefire agreements, and facilitate post-conflict reconstruction. The evaluative will also review the challenges faced by these missions and how they are supported to overcome them, including lack of funding and political pressure, while maintaining the fundamental principle of substantive multilateralism for impartiality and accountability in peacekeeping. Delegates will present and discuss both past successes and failures of peacekeeping operations and consider ways to improve future operations for greater efficiency, fairness and sustainable development and peace.
