Our 6th committee is UNODC, which is a beginner level committee!
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) serves as a body of the United Nations in addressing issues related to transnational organized crime, illicit trafficking, terrorism, corruption, and drug-related challenges. The committee's mandate centers on assisting Member States as they face with the threats posed by drugs, crime, and terrorism. The agenda focuses on one of the overlooked consequences of organized crime, which is the inefficiencies in public health. In regions that are heavily affected by cartels, citizens face limited access to healthcare, exposure to violence, substance abuse, and serious mental health challenges. Delegates are expected to examine the underlying causes of these healthcare shortages, search for innovative approaches for the improvement of health systems, and ensure their proposals align with UNODC’s overarching goal of combating organized crime while protecting human security.
