UNHRC

The Human Rights Council is a global organization within the United Nations system which is responsible for encouraging the promotion and protection of human rights around the world, as well as addressing and making recommendations on violations of human rights. Its tools include the universal periodic review, which assesses human rights status in all United Nations member states.
With a duty to promote and preserve all human rights, the UN Human Rights Council urges the abolition of capital punishment internationally. The imposition of an execution is incompatible with the right to live. There is steadily increasing awareness of its abolition worldwide. However, capital punishment is still used in a small percentage of countries, owing to the misconception that it deters crime. In this committee, delegates will debate upon the results of the punishments with the approach of affecting crime rates, and determine whether it affects national security.

Committee: UNHRC
Agenda Item: Discussing upon the effects of Capital Punishment

Under-Secretary-General: İrem Uzun
