Historical United Nations General Assembly Special Session (H-UNGASS):
The United Nations General Assembly Special Session (UNGASS) is a special session, classified as a high- level GA meeting, assembled upon the request of the Security Council or of a majority of the Members of the United Nations. In this case, this special session has been called upon by the General Assembly in the conclusion of the recent nuclear disaster that took place in Chernobyl as the disaster has been reflected in the international press. The disaster was internationally announced as the result of increasing amounts of radioactivity on personnel passing through the Forsmark Power Station, Sweden, and the follow-up check of surface contamination. The Swedish authorities traced the wind directions and found that the results of the radioactive findings matched the uranium-based fuel used by Soviet RBMK-1000 reactors, leading to the conclusion of the source of the radioactive contamination as Vladmir Ilyich Lenin Nuclear Power Plant, known as Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant by the public. This information was released on 29th April 1986, 3 days after the date of the disaster, by the Swedish authorities as a way of demanding a statement on the matter by the USSR authorities.
Which leads to this United Nations General Assembly Special Session. The General Assembly has reached the conclusion of the necessity of a special session for further deliberation, discussion and conclusion of the catastrophe in the weeks following the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant disaster, 1986. As the heads of state, it is upon the representatives of this session to elucidate and mitigate the effects of this disaster.
